Claude Max subscribers get up to $200 a month for the API

Promtime

If you pay for Max 20x, Anthropic will now put $200 a month into a Claude Console account for you, and none of it can be spent in Claude Code. The terms are in a support article from Claude that sets out monthly Claude Platform credits for Max and Team subscribers.

At a glance

  • Max and Team subscriptions now carry a second, separate budget: monthly credits for the Claude API, Claude Managed Agents and the Claude Agent SDK, claimed into a Console organization.
  • Max 5x gets $100 and Max 20x gets $200 a month, while Team plans earn $20 per Standard seat and $100 per Premium seat in one pool capped at $500.
  • The catch is scope: interactive Claude Code sessions and extra usage beyond plan limits are excluded, Pro subscribers get nothing, and the whole balance lands in a single Console organization.

If you have not been following: according to IntuitionLabs, Claude Max launched in April 2025 as a high-usage tier above Pro, with Max 5x at $100 a month and Max 20x at $200. UseRightAI reports that weekly limits arrived across Pro and Max on August 28, 2025. As CodePick describes it, the subscription allowance has always been separate from pay-as-you-go API billing through a Console account.

Max 20x subscribers get $200 a month, Max 5x subscribers get $100

The individual tiers are simple. Max 5x comes with a $100 monthly credit and Max 20x with $200. The money goes to the Claude Platform, the side of Anthropic's business where you call models from your own code, and the support article says it works with any available Claude model there.

Team plans are counted per seat. A Standard seat adds $20 a month and a Premium seat adds $100, and discounted Team plans for nonprofits and scientists get the same $20 and $100 rates. Pro is left out entirely: asked in the FAQ whether a Pro subscriber can get the credit, Anthropic answers no, the offer covers Max and Team plans only.

A Team pool stops at $500, however many seats you add

On Team plans the per-seat amounts do not stay with each person. They are pooled into one monthly balance capped at $500, and a single Team Owner or Primary Owner links a Console organization and claims the whole pool on behalf of the team.

The pool follows the seat count at the moment credits are deposited. In Anthropic's own example, three Standard seats and two Premium seats bring in $260 a month. Add one more Premium seat and the next cycle grows to $360.

Spending is shared just as freely. Everyone with an API key in the linked organization can draw on the balance, and the article points owners to workspace spend limits in the Console if they want to cap usage by project or by teammate.

The credits cover the API, Managed Agents and the Agent SDK, but not Claude Code

According to the FAQ, the credits apply to the Claude API, Claude Managed Agents and the Claude Agent SDK. They do not cover interactive Claude Code sessions, and they do not cover extra usage after you hit your plan's limits. Anthropic states the purpose plainly: building your own apps and agents on the Claude Platform.

One FAQ entry heads off confusion with an earlier offer. Asked whether this is the same as the Agent SDK credits announced in June, the article says no and adds a flat line: "That credit isn't available." The credits also cannot be split, since they go to a single Console organization.

Claiming the credit means linking one Console organization to your plan

The mechanics are short. You link a Claude Console organization to your Max or Team plan, and each month the credit is deposited into that organization's balance, ready to use. API calls made with that organization's keys then draw the balance down.

Think of it as a prepaid card that your subscription reloads every month and that sits in one shared office drawer. Whoever has a key to the drawer can use it, and workspace spend limits are the only rationing tool the article mentions.

For a sense of scale, CodePick lists reference API rates per million tokens, input and output: Sonnet at $3 and $15, Opus at $5 and $25, Haiku at $1 and $5. Those are the prices a $100 or $200 monthly credit gets measured against.

The text we have is thin exactly where budgeting questions start: the sections on how the credits work, what happens when they run out and what happens if your plan changes carry headings but no detail, so rollover and overage behaviour remain unclear. In our view, the Claude Code exclusion is the decisive design choice: for a Max subscriber whose usage goes mostly into Claude Code, the $200 will likely sit in the Console until they write code of their own.

Who sees the offer in the coming days

Anthropic is rolling the credits out over a few days, so some eligible accounts will not see the offer yet. It appears only after seven days on an eligible plan; if you are past that and still see nothing, the article says to check that you are on Max or Team and hold one of the required roles, then contact support. Which roles qualify is not spelled out in the text we have.
