Claude Code Projects admits its whole Pro and Max waitlist
If you have a Pro or Max plan and were stuck on the Claude Code Projects waitlist, you now have access: the Claude Code team says in a post on X that it let in every one of those users. The waitlist is still open, though. Projects is still in beta, and the team says it will let in more Pro and Max users "as capacity allows."
At a glance
- The beta began on September 17, 2026, for selected Pro and Max subscribers on Claude Code cloud sessions who had no existing Projects on Claude web or desktop, and this round clears the backlog.
- A project is one ongoing conversation in which Claude coordinates the work and runs each task as its own thread in parallel, and threads share a common memory as they go.
- Parallel threads drain Pro and Max usage limits faster than a single session, and Anthropic has not published a usage multiplier, a concurrency ceiling or a per-project allowance to plan around.
If you haven't been following: according to Explainx, the Projects feature that has lived in claude.ai chat since 2025 is a different product. Explainx adds that the Claude Code version builds on earlier multi-session features in Claude Code: agent view, cross-session messaging, and subagents with multi-agent workflows. The redesigned Projects went into beta on September 17, 2026, with a waitlist for everyone the first wave left out.
Projects shows up in the sidebar at claude.ai/code once your account is in
This round covers Pro and Max users who were already on the waitlist. Anyone else can still sign up through the waitlist form. The post also links a four-minute walkthrough for newcomers and the Projects documentation, which is the place to start if you have never opened a project.
There is no setting to switch on. If Projects does not appear in the sidebar at claude.ai/code or in the Code tab of the desktop app, the rollout has not reached your account, and the waitlist is how you get in. According to AIReiter, users on X who couldn't find the entry point after the announcement had hit this account gate. They had not made a setup mistake.
The September 17 beta started with cloud-session users only
The first wave on September 17, 2026, went to selected Pro and Max subscribers who use Claude Code cloud sessions and had no Projects on Claude web or desktop. Claude's launch post promised to expand to more Claude Code users on those plans "over the coming week." After that would come updated projects across all of Claude and on the Team and Enterprise plans.
According to the same Claude post, Projects that Pro and Max users already have keep working as they do today. Anthropic will upgrade them as the rollout reaches chat and Cowork. Separately, Explainx added an update on September 24, 2026, noting that Claude Code cloud sessions are generally available.
Threads share one memory and, for now, run only in the cloud
According to Claude's launch post, Projects uses a coordinator model. Claude scopes the request, hands out the pieces, coordinates the parallel threads, reviews what comes back and assembles the result, and it keeps working after you step away from the computer. Anthropic's documentation adds that every new thread starts with the project's instructions.
Under the hood, the Claude post says, each thread is a Claude Code cloud session with its own branch and its own copy of the repo. When two threads touch the same code, the overlap becomes an ordinary merge conflict, resolved like any other PR. Threads can split their work further using subagents, loops and workflows.
Picture a foreman handing jobs to separate crews, each at its own site, with a shared logbook in the trailer. Every thread adds to and draws from a shared project memory, and each project also has a library of files and artifacts. At launch, threads could not reach local files, a local database or an internal network. Anthropic said local support is coming.
Parallel threads spend Pro and Max limits faster than one session
Running several threads at once uses up your plan's usage limits faster than a single session does. Anthropic has not published a fixed multiplier, a concurrency ceiling or a per-project allowance. What it does offer is usage tracking for each project, plus separate model and effort controls for the coordinator and for the worker threads.
On price, AIReiter reports that, according to VentureBeat, Projects had no separate pricing at launch. Usage comes out of the subscriber's existing Claude allowance. So there is no add-on to buy, but threads running side by side spend the same allowance faster than a single session.
Oddly, the post that clears the waitlist gives no hint of how much capacity there is, so anyone signing up today is guessing at the wait. Usage is just as unclear. With no published multiplier or concurrency ceiling, a Pro user who starts several threads will likely discover the cost on the usage meter, not in the docs.
When Team and Enterprise get Projects
According to AIReiter, there is no published date for the Team and Enterprise plans, or for the rollout to chat and Cowork. Anthropic has promised local support for threads but has not given a date for it either. For Pro and Max users who are not in yet, the only stated rule is that more will be let in as capacity allows. Until then, the waitlist form stays open.
