GPT-6.1 Sol gets 8x speed at $60 per million output tokens
Eight times faster than Sol Standard, at $12 per million input tokens and $60 per million output. That's OpenAI's price for Ultrafast mode on GPT-6.1 Sol, which is rolling out in ChatGPT Work, Codex and the API.
Standard Sol stays at $2/$10, so the speed carries a steep premium, in our view. When Ultrafast launched, it ran only on GPT-6 Astra, and Sol was listed as coming soon.
In the API you switch it on with service_tier: "ultrafast" in the Responses API, and US and EU data residency still applies. Astra's Ultrafast in Codex required the Pro 500 plan; OpenAI hasn't said whether Sol follows the same rule.
Speed, it turns out, gets its own line on the bill.
