Mathematicians recall an OpenAI promise it isn't aware of

"There's a perception of mobster behavior" from leading AI companies, one mathematician told WIRED. Per WIRED, OpenAI is preparing to release more than 100 new solutions to unsolved math problems.

In August, OpenAI brought together around 40 mathematicians to talk about what to do if AI outpaces humans in the field. People who attended say the company hinted that its models had solved hundreds of long-standing problems. They say it also asked for advice on how to publish the results and promised not to release the solutions all at once.

OpenAI spokesperson Lindsay McCallum says the company is "not aware of" that assurance.

The public part of WIRED's story doesn't name the problems or give a release date.
