The desktop client that bundles ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex is now in preview for Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04 LTS, Debian 13, Fedora 43, and Fedora 44. It installs from .deb and .rpm packages for x64 and ARM64, and the rollout is global.
Linux was one of the most requested platforms for the desktop app, an OpenAI spokesperson told The New Stack. The Mac and Windows versions shipped in July alongside the ChatGPT Work launch.
The Linux build includes OpenAI's built-in browser and support for Chrome extensions. Controlling the computer outside that built-in browser isn't supported in this version, the spokesperson confirmed. Codex CLI, the IDE extension, and cloud Codex already ran on Linux.
