Anthropic posted preliminary revenue of more than $11.5 billion in the second quarter, up from $787 million in the same period a year earlier, Bloomberg News reported Friday from documents it viewed. The figures, relayed by CNBC, arrive as Anthropic prepares for a possible initial public offering.

At a glance

  • The comparison set runs across three quarters: $787 million a year earlier, $4.73 billion in the first quarter of 2026, and more than $11.5 billion in the latest completed quarter.
  • Alongside the revenue line, the documents seen by Bloomberg show positive adjusted operating income for the second quarter, and Bloomberg notes the whole set remains preliminary and could still change.
  • Anthropic CFO Krishna Rao is running early meetings with prospective investors that sources told CNBC have stayed high-level, without discussion of specific financials or a valuation, ahead of a listing possible this fall.

A quarterly revenue line above $11.5 billion changes what an Anthropic listing would look like to public-market investors: the question shifts from whether demand exists to how long the growth curve holds. Positive adjusted operating income matters for the same reason, since it suggests the business can cover part of its own compute bill rather than funding every dollar of growth from raised capital.

The year-over-year jump is more than 14-fold, by Bloomberg's account, moving from $787 million to more than $11.5 billion. Sequentially, the line runs from $4.73 billion in the first quarter of 2026. Bloomberg cautions that the numbers are preliminary and could still change.

Anthropic said in May that its run-rate revenue had crossed $47 billion, up from roughly $10 billion in revenue across all of 2025. The documents viewed by Bloomberg also record positive adjusted operating income for the second quarter, alongside the revenue line.

The revenue growth comes as Anthropic competes with OpenAI for corporate customers and gains traction among professionals using Claude for tasks including coding. Early meetings with prospective investors have been high-level, with no discussion of specific financials or a valuation, sources told CNBC's David Faber on Thursday, and CFO Krishna Rao is leading them.

A public debut would open access to billions of dollars in additional capital, the financial runway required to fund escalating compute infrastructure costs, secure advanced hardware and build specialized data centers. An IPO as soon as this fall would also make Anthropic one of the first major private AI companies to tap public markets.

Unanswered before a fall filing

The meetings have not touched specific financials or a valuation, according to the sources cited by CNBC, and no filing date or listing venue has been named. Bloomberg's figures remain preliminary, so both the revenue line and the adjusted operating income could be restated before any prospectus. How the preliminary numbers land in an eventual filing remains unstated.
