Lightcap announced Tuesday in a post on X that he's leaving OpenAI to "start something new." He joined in 2018, spent four years running operations, then shifted to "special projects" in April, when chief revenue officer Denise Dresser picked up most of his responsibilities.

CNBC frames the exit as the latest in a run of departures. Chief product and business officer Fidji Simo left last month, and April saw the exits of Bill Peebles (Sora), Kevin Weil (OpenAI for Science) and Srinivas Narayanan (B2B Applications).

All of it lands while OpenAI works to justify an $852 billion valuation ahead of an expected IPO. Lightcap wrote that he'll stay on for a few more weeks.
