Nscale will use Nvidia's Vera Rubin chips to meet Anthropic's needs, Bloomberg reported, and that generation is due to start coming online late next year. Contracts of this kind are usually written in megawatts because grid capacity, not chip supply alone, determines how fast a site can be brought into service.

Nscale sells AI cloud capacity out of data centers it develops, and the Anthropic contract attaches to the site it treats as its flagship. Deals at this scale are typically signed well before a facility is fully energized, and capacity is drawn down in stages as the build progresses.

Renting capacity from a specialist operator has become a common route for AI labs, since it moves the capital outlay and the construction risk onto the builder. The tenant instead takes on a long, fixed payment commitment, which in Anthropic's case runs to $45 billion across six years.
