Banks shelve bonds for Anthropic-tied Texas data center

Banks have shelved a bond sale for a Texas data center tied to Anthropic, Bloomberg reported on October 28, and a MarketScreener headline calls the same move a delay. The $15 billion figure already attached to an Anthropic-linked Texas campus comes from July reports of a bank loan, and it is unclear whether the shelved bonds are connected to that loan.
In July, The Wall Street Journal reported that a bank consortium led by Morgan Stanley was in advanced talks to lend $15 billion to Nexus Data Centers. Nexus, an Anthropic partner, is building a campus in Hubbard, Texas, around its own 1.6-gigawatt natural gas power plant, and the Journal said Google was providing financial guarantees and chips.
The guarantee was what put Google’s balance sheet behind that loan. CNBC confirmed the talks on July 30 and reported that Google had agreed to back Anthropic with its investment-grade credit rating.
