Junior share of Anthropic tech hires fell from 27% to 9%

By August, the agents Anthropic employees run themselves logged 6 hours for every human hour. That comes from an Anthropic Institute report built on the company's internal data, and hiring moved with it: juniors in technical departments slipped from 21% to 14% of staff since early 2025.
Teams found Claude could take over much of the code writing and bug hunting, so by April engineering and research had deemphasized lower band roles. Code commits per engineer now run at 5x the pace of 6 months ago. Hiring scorecards weigh autonomy and judgment more, domain expertise less.
By the authors' own account, the early warning system and internal redeployments Anthropic set up do nothing directly for the junior candidates who never get hired.
