OpenAI buys back about $7 billion in employee stock

Bloomberg reports that OpenAI has closed a tender offer letting current and former employees sell roughly $7 billion worth of shares ahead of a possible IPO. Two people who spoke to the agency on condition of anonymity said OpenAI purchased the stock itself, with no outside investors taking part.
The deal valued OpenAI at $852 billion, the same price the company carried out of its most recent funding round.
