OpenAI’s API and Codex hit Oracle Marketplace in the U.S.

Oracle customers in the U.S. can buy the OpenAI API, Codex and ChatGPT Work through Oracle Marketplace, using the procurement process they already have and paying with eligible Oracle Universal Credits, OpenAI said in an October 28 post on its wider partnership with Oracle. If your company already holds Oracle credits, that purchasing route is the piece you can use today. Oracle AI Workspace, the part that brings Oracle apps and data into ChatGPT, is still being developed.
The Marketplace offer covers the U.S. only. It needs no new vendor contract with OpenAI: the spend runs through Oracle procurement, against credits already approved for Oracle.
AI Workspace is meant to let people describe a task in ChatGPT, find the information in Oracle applications and complete approved business workflows in one place. Access would follow each organization’s permissions and approvals, with unified sign-in and simpler administration. OpenAI’s example is a new finance team member using ChatGPT to look into costs, understand purchasing decisions and see what is left before month-end close, pulling from finance, procurement and planning applications. The post still calls that “the intended experience”.
Oracle also announced three offerings built on OpenAI models and tools:
- Oracle AI Security Mesh uses OpenAI cyber models to find and fix vulnerabilities in applications and infrastructure. Oracle runs the testing infrastructure so customers stay within their authorized scope.
- Oracle AI SMB Bundle packages ChatGPT Business and Codex with Oracle applications and recurring Oracle Cloud Infrastructure credits for small businesses.
- Oracle App Composer lets teams build apps with Codex and other AI tools, connect them to approved Oracle data and workflows and share them across the organization. Oracle handles deployment on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, with company permissions and access controls built in.
All three are described in terms of what they are designed to do. The post gives no prices or availability dates for any of them.
Oracle is a large OpenAI customer itself. It reported 130,000 active ChatGPT users and more than 95,000 active Codex users. Its recruiting team uses ChatGPT Work for market research that used to take two to four days to put together, and preparation now takes 15 to 20 minutes, by Oracle’s own account.
The purchasing setup matches the one OpenAI arranged with Google Cloud. There, purchases go through Google Cloud Marketplace and draw down existing GCP commitments, though the GPT-6 models were in private preview for select enterprise customers. A U.S. company with Oracle credits now gets the same kind of option Google Cloud customers got: paying for OpenAI products out of money already committed to its cloud vendor.
