Anthropic folds Cowork into Claude chat and adds Slides

Anthropic has merged Claude Chat and Claude Cowork into a single experience. TechCrunch and Reuters reported that the rollout began on September 16.

The same release adds two new tools, Claude Docs and Claude Slides, and you open both straight from the unified chat, per a post on Threads summarising the launch. Claude Design is available there too, and Anthropic says it now works inside conversations.

The merger has been coming in stages. Since August 25, Cowork has shared one memory with chat. Before that, Cowork’s memory was tied to individual projects and kept apart from what Claude learned in conversations. Now the two interfaces are one as well.

With Docs, Slides and Design all inside the chat, Claude appears to be moving onto ground held by Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. When Cowork first launched, coverage already framed it as Anthropic competing with Microsoft’s Copilot.

Anthropic says the unified version will reach Pro and Max subscribers over the next few weeks. It hasn’t said when other plans will get it.
