Anthropic booked preliminary revenue of more than $11.5 billion in the second quarter, more than 14 times the $787 million it recorded in the same period a year earlier. Bloomberg News reported the figures Friday from documents it viewed, and CNBC reported that Anthropic has begun early meetings with prospective investors ahead of a potential public listing.

At a glance

  • The documents seen by Bloomberg News also show positive adjusted operating income for the second quarter, and the outlet cautioned that every figure in them remains preliminary and could still change.
  • Early meetings with prospective investors have stayed high-level, without discussion of specific financials or a valuation, with CFO Krishna Rao leading them, sources told CNBC's David Faber on Thursday.
  • A listing as soon as this fall would make Anthropic one of the first major private AI companies to tap public markets, opening access to capital for compute infrastructure, hardware and data centers.

Revenue of that size, paired with positive adjusted operating income, changes what an Anthropic listing would look like on paper: a company that appears able to point at profitability metrics rather than at growth alone. The timing also reads as deliberate, with the figures surfacing while early investor meetings are under way and before any valuation has been discussed. Compute costs are the line item that makes public capital attractive at this scale.

The sequence in the documents runs from $787 million in the year-ago quarter to $4.73 billion in the first quarter of 2026 and then to more than $11.5 billion in the second, according to Bloomberg News. That is more than a 14-fold increase over 12 months, and more than a doubling quarter over quarter.

Anthropic said in May that its run-rate revenue had crossed $47 billion, up from roughly $10 billion in revenue for all of 2025. The jump comes as the company competes with OpenAI for corporate customers and has gained traction among professionals using its software for tasks including coding.

An IPO as soon as this fall would make Anthropic one of the first major private AI companies to tap public markets. CNBC wrote that such a debut would unlock billions of dollars in additional capital to fund escalating compute infrastructure costs, secure advanced hardware and build specialized data centers.

What the investor talks left open

No valuation and no specific financials have come up in the meetings so far, according to the sources cited by CNBC, and no date for a listing has been named beyond the possibility of this fall. The revenue and operating income figures themselves remain preliminary, per Bloomberg News, which means the numbers underpinning any pitch to public-market investors could still move.
