Anthropic's IPO targets SpaceX's $75B record size
Claude News
anthropicAnthropic expects its initial public offering to match or exceed the size of SpaceX's, the debut that set the all-time record for a first-time share sale at $75 billion, according to Bloomberg. A confidential draft registration statement on Form S-1 is already with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
At a glance
- The draft registration statement sits with the SEC under the confidential review process, and a public version of the Form S-1 could appear as soon as the end of this month.
- Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao has avoided committing to a valuation figure, a separate measure from deal size, which is what the comparison with SpaceX's $75 billion record describes.
- Anthropic buys computing capacity from SpaceX under an agreement that could be worth tens of billions of dollars over three years, according to The Next Web, tying the two companies commercially.
Taking a first-time share sale into the same range as SpaceX's would move the compute economics behind Claude into quarterly public disclosure: revenue, losses, and the contracts that consume the cash. The absence of a valuation figure reads as deliberate at this stage, since deal size and valuation move separately and the second is the number that sets terms for existing holders. For developers, the practical effect is visibility into how the model business is funded.
Bloomberg reports that Anthropic expects the offering to reach the level SpaceX set or go beyond it. Rao has not committed to a valuation figure. Deal size and valuation are distinct measures: the first is the amount raised in the sale, the second the price the market puts on the whole company.
The confidential route lets a company work through SEC comments on a draft registration statement before terms and financials become readable by anyone. Anthropic has already submitted its draft on Form S-1 and could publish the filing as soon as the end of this month.
The two companies are already commercial counterparties. Anthropic buys computing capacity from SpaceX under an agreement that could be worth tens of billions of dollars over three years, according to The Next Web. Compute contracts of that shape reserve capacity in advance and commit the buyer to payments across the full term.
When the public filing lands
Anthropic could file publicly as soon as the end of this month, which would put revenue, losses and compute commitments on the record. No valuation and no target amount to be raised have been named so far, and no firm date for the public filing has been given beyond that window. Until the public Form S-1 appears, the SpaceX record is the only stated yardstick for the deal's size.
