DeepSeek raised about $15B after lifting its target twice

According to Bloomberg, DeepSeek has raised about 100 billion yuan ($15 billion), one of the largest funding rounds China has ever seen, as it sets out to compete with OpenAI and Anthropic.
People familiar with the matter say the Hangzhou-based lab raised its target at least twice during talks with investors, from 50 billion yuan to 80 billion yuan, before reaching the final tally. The ask kept growing as the talks went on.
Battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology and WeChat operator Tencent were among the biggest investors. The money goes to a lab that this month opened its web search to outside developers at $0.75 per 1,000 requests.
