Anthropic and Meta are talking about a $10 billion compute deal

Anthropic is in talks to rent compute from Meta, The New York Times reports, in a deal that could reach $10 billion over two years. Anthropic pitched it in June and plans to pay Meta in monthly installments across the two-year term, per the paper.

Either side could exit early, the Times says, and the talks are early enough that they may not lead to a deal. For Meta, it's a way to earn something off its infrastructure beyond ads: the company doesn't sell compute as a business.
