Anthropic to pay SpaceX $15 billion annually for compute access
According to SpaceX's IPO filings, Anthropic has secured a deal to lease computing capacity. Through May 2029, Anthropic will pay $1.25 billion monthly to access the Colossus and Colossus II data centers.
These facilities have over 1 GW of power and were initially built for xAI. Elon Musk has chosen to monetize excess capacity by offering it to a direct competitor. Anthropic urgently needs GPUs for model training and tools like Claude Code.
The deal's size highlights how access to compute resources has become the key constraint in the AI race. Separately, SpaceX is preparing for a massive IPO that could value the company at $1.75 trillion, despite billions in losses from technology and Starship development.
