Claude designs, decks and docs burn half the usage

Claude News

For two weeks, asking Claude for a slide deck takes half the usual bite out of your limits. According to Anthropic's announcement on X, if you start a design, deck or doc in the Claude app, the work that follows in that conversation uses 50% less of your usage limits, through October 15 on Pro, Max and Team plans.

At a glance

  • Anthropic pairs the offer with Claude Sonnet 5.5, which it says has a strong eye for design and builds slides that need minimal editing, and suggests trying the promotion with that model.
  • The discount applies automatically each time you create a design, deck or doc, and it reduces how much of your plan's usage limits the following work in that conversation consumes.
  • The post on X covers only the basics and sends readers to a support article for how it works and the full terms, which is where the offer's actual limits are spelled out.

This is not Anthropic's first temporary change to Claude's limits. According to Explainx, weekly caps were added on top of the rolling window since August 2025, a two-week off-peak doubling ran in March 2026, and Claude Code's 5-hour limits were permanently doubled on May 6, 2026. The same outlet reports a 50% higher Claude Code weekly limit that, per a later update, ends September 14 and is replaced by a permanent 25% raise.

The half-price offer runs through October 15 on Pro, Max and Team plans

The announcement itself is short. The offer lasts two weeks, ends on October 15, covers Pro, Max and Team plans, and applies automatically each time you create a design, deck or doc in the Claude app. According to Claude's support page, the promotion began on October 1. Nothing needs switching on in settings.

Anthropic recommends trying it with Claude Sonnet 5.5, which it says has a strong eye for design and builds slides that need minimal editing. Anthropic's Sonnet 5.5 launch post describes the model as strongest at well-scoped everyday tasks, fixing bugs and creating polished documents, slides and spreadsheets. According to the same post, it is priced at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, same as Sonnet 5, and costs up to 30% less per task.

What exactly counts as the work that follows?

The support terms count it in messages rather than in whole conversations. According to Claude's support page, in chats the next 10 messages after Claude creates or edits an artifact use 50% less of the five-hour session limit. After that, the standard rate applies until Claude creates or edits an artifact in that chat again.

Within a single reply, the same page says, only up to the first 15 steps, such as a search, tool use or artifact update, are discounted, and further steps count at the standard rate. How you start matters as well: according to Prompt Blueprints, choosing Document, Presentation or Design from the Output menu applies the discount from the first message, while in a regular chat the message where Claude first creates the design counts at the standard rate.

Think of it as a coffee card that refills itself. Every new or edited artifact punches in another 10 discounted messages, and if you just keep chatting without touching the artifact, the card quietly runs out.

Where does the half-price rate stop?

At the five-hour window. According to Claude's support page, the discount applies to the five-hour session limit, not the weekly usage limit, and it does not apply to usage-credit charges. A long design session can therefore still eat into your week at full rate.

In Cowork, per the same page, the discount covers only cloud tasks, not local tasks in Claude Desktop. New tasks started via Document, Presentation or Design get the discount for about the first 45 minutes, and in other tasks up to the next 80 steps after an artifact is created or edited can be discounted.

The support page also lists what is left out entirely: Claude Code, the API, Claude in Slack, scheduled or unattended tasks, artifacts made with the earlier version of artifacts, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides via the Google Drive connector, and the standalone Claude Design app. Free and all Enterprise plans are excluded.

The 50% figure is hard to check from your side. According to Layer3Labs, Anthropic does not publish exact message counts, and usage depends on chat length, model and attachments, so half of an unpublished number stays unpublished. In our view, the X post's phrase about the work that follows in that conversation oversells a discount that the support terms cap at 10 messages per artifact and keep away from the weekly limit.

When the deck discount runs out

The promotion ends on October 15, and the announcement does not say whether any part of it continues after that date. The Claude Code promo, as Explainx describes it, ended in a smaller permanent raise, but that was a different product and nothing links the two. Until the deadline, your quarterly deck has a good excuse to ship early, ideally started from the Output menu.
