Microsoft in talks to supply Maia chips to Anthropic
Microsoft is negotiating to supply its Maia AI chips to Anthropic. This would mark a major step for Microsoft in its bid to catch up to Amazon and Google in the specialized silicon market. The company previously announced the Maia 200 chip, slated for use in running OpenAI models.
Anthropic is facing a compute crunch driven by surging demand for Claude and Claude Code. The startup recently agreed to pay SpaceX $1.25 billion monthly through May 2029 for access to supercomputers.
The potential deal would add to Anthropic's existing agreements. The company already uses Amazon's Trainium chips under a $100 billion contract, and Google's TPU processors.
