Subagents in Claude Code 2.1.296 can compact early

A subagent chewing through long logs can fill its context well before your main chat does. Version 2.1.296 gives it a separate compaction trigger, plus a few more knobs:
• autoCompactWindow in subagent frontmatter and --agents definitions makes a subagent auto-compact earlier than the main conversation. • CLAUDE_CODE_WORKFLOW_SUBAGENT_MODEL puts every workflow agent on one model, and other subagents keep theirs. • The Read tool gets allow_large for reading an oversized text file in one call, if the context has room. • /cost and the SDK price Sonnet 5.5 cache reads at $0.10 per million tokens, down from $0.20.
The catch for older repos: Edit used to mangle non-ASCII characters in Windows-1252 or Shift-JIS files, and it refuses such edits instead.
