For working developers, the item that matters most this week is the Claude sidebar in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides. You approve each edit before it lands in your file, and it's in beta on all paid plans. Claude Code users on Pro or Max had until Oct 7 at 11:59pm PT to run /claim-credit for the cloud-session bonus. Those who did can spend it until Nov 4.

On the money side, the Financial Times reports a record $60 billion chip deal for Broadcom and Anthropic. Only the headline is visible, so the terms are still unknown.

Claude gets a sidebar in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides

A panel next to your file reads what you have open and edits it in place, and you can approve each change before it lands. The other direction works too: paste a Google file link into Claude and it opens beside the chat, with access following your Google sharing permissions. Both are in beta on all paid plans.

Claude Code cloud credit has to be claimed by Oct 7

If you were on a Pro or Max plan on Sept 23, you can still get the one-time bonus credit for cloud sessions. It won't arrive on its own, though. You have to run /claim-credit in Claude Code by Oct 7 at 11:59pm PT.

Each task in a cloud session runs on a fresh VM, so you can start several at once, and they keep working after you close your laptop. Anthropic also published a field guide with seven workflows that suit cloud sessions and a walkthrough for connecting GitHub on the first try.

Cloud sessions spend the credit first. Once it runs out or expires on Nov 4, cloud work counts toward your plan limits.

Anthropic adds offensive tiers for verified pentesters

Penetration testing and red-teaming get their own tiers in the expanded Cyber Verification Program, which Anthropic is opening up for authorized offensive work. Verified security professionals in the program can access Claude Mythos 5.1, Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5, with safeguards Anthropic says are designed for defensive work. The announcement doesn't explain how verification works or what the offensive tiers include beyond that.

Wall Street banks launch a record $60B Anthropic chip deal

The Financial Times reports that Wall Street banks have put together a $60 billion chip deal for Broadcom and Anthropic, and it calls the deal a record. The report is behind a paywall, so all we can see is the headline. The lenders, the terms and how the money is split between the two companies aren't in it. For comparison, Reuters reported earlier from Anthropic's IPO prospectus that Broadcom would lend Anthropic up to $42 billion to lease chips.
