Anthropic will refund users hit by extra-usage overcharges
Anthropic says some users on the extra-usage option may have been overbilled. It's refunding the affected credits and adding a bonus credit equal to the overcharge on top.
This extends a billing saga ZDNet Korea reported earlier, when one Korean user got a bill for $16,627,739.70. Per byteiota and gate, a separate bug on April 25, 2026 triggered whenever a HERMES.md file showed up in a Git commit history, charging pay-as-you-go rates instead of the subscription.
