Shared Claude chats turned up in Google search results
TechCrunch reports that Reddit users spotted over the weekend that a Google search for site:claude.ai/share returned a list of Claude conversations shared via link. 404 Media was first to write about it on Monday morning.
Futurism found a real patient's medical report in the results, along with documents listing elementary school students' names and phone numbers and internal company files.
Anthropic pointed the finger at users in its response to TechCrunch: a shared link only lands in search results if someone posts it somewhere crawlers can see it. Spokesperson Amy Rotherham added that Anthropic doesn't hand chat directories or sitemaps to search engines.
By Monday, TechCrunch's own test search came up empty. Forbes reported a similar episode a year ago, when Google turned up just under 600 indexed chats.
