Trump walks back Anthropic national security claim
President Donald Trump told Axios he no longer considers Anthropic a national security threat. The comment comes after a meeting with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei at the G7 summit in France, days after restrictions were placed on foreign access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5.
The Trump administration had labeled Anthropic a supply chain risk due to its refusal to remove safeguards from products for military use. The standoff led to criminal charges and cast doubt on the company's planned IPO at a $965 billion valuation.
Despite Trump's comments, formal Commerce Department requirements remain in place. The Pentagon still flags Anthropic as a risky vendor.
