Vatican and Anthropic partner on AI ethics
Pope Francis and Anthropic co-founder Christopher Olah released a joint statement, Magnifica Humanitas, on protecting human dignity in the AI era. This marks the first time a Pope has formally invited a tech sector representative to discuss the future of technology.
The document calls for government regulation of AI and criticizes the concentration of power in a few companies. Olah emphasized the need for external oversight: developers require honest critics not driven by commercial interests or profit motives.
Anthropic and the Vatican have collaborated previously. Catholic theologians contributed to the Constitution of Claude, which defines the model's ethical framework.
