A browser inside Claude Desktop, always on in Cowork

Claude Desktop will reportedly gain a browser built directly into the app, permanently available inside Cowork sessions, according to a post published on Threads. The post names no release date and frames the addition as a step toward a single desktop application that absorbs more of the workflow.

The capability itself is not new to Anthropic's desktop software. Claude Code desktop already includes a built-in browser, announced in July 2026, that reads pages, clicks through interfaces and types on external websites, running in a sandboxed environment on a clean profile with no saved logins.

According to The Decoder, organizations can restrict which external sites the built-in browser reaches through an allowlist, or disable the browser tools entirely. Cowork, for its part, is listed by Anthropic as a beta on web and mobile for Pro, Max and higher plans, and on Claude Desktop for macOS across all paid plans.

What's next No release date has been given for a browser inside Claude Desktop, and the Threads post does not say whether it would be the same component that ships in Claude Code desktop or a separate build.
