Anthropic discontinues Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick sent a letter to Dario Amodei requiring a government license for any access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models. The restriction applies to transferring technologies to foreign nationals worldwide.
The letter threatens Anthropic with criminal and civil liability if it doesn't comply, citing export control laws that prevent technologies from being used for enemy military or intelligence purposes.
Anthropic temporarily disabled both models for all users while negotiations with the Trump administration continue. The discussions previously focused on Fable 5 restrictions but now include the flagship Mythos 5 model.
