Class action says Anthropic's Max 5x plan is closer to 3.5x
Kahn v. Anthropic landed in federal court in the Northern District of California on June 14, 2026. The plaintiff claims the $100 and $200 per month Max tiers deliver roughly 3.5x and 6-8x of Pro rather than the advertised 5x and 20x.
The suit arrived in a year when the limits were moving up, not down. On May 6, 2026 Anthropic doubled the five-hour limits in Claude Code and dropped peak-hour throttling; on May 13 it raised weekly limits by 50% as a promotion, later extended through August 19.
A review of 2,122 subscriber posts from July 2025 through July 30, 2026 found 1,676 dealing with limits and quotas, 619 with the premium model counter, and 265 with transparency. July's most popular post in r/ClaudeCode, a parody of "seventeen interlocking limits, three ceremonial," pulled 2,365 votes.
