Anthropic faces lawsuit over subscription limits

Washington resident Carl Kahn has filed a class-action lawsuit against Anthropic, alleging the company misled consumers about the limits of its Max 5x and Max 20x premium plans. The plaintiff seeks restitution for all customers who purchased these subscriptions since April 2025.

The lawsuit claims the actual usage capabilities do not match what was advertised at sale. This comes after Anthropic recently tightened rules, introducing separate credit balances for regular chats and autonomous agents due to their high resource consumption.

Anthropic previously explained the need for limits by citing automated tools consuming computing power orders of magnitude faster than humans. The trial centers on the transparency of these limits for paid subscribers.
