Claude gains ground among paying users against ChatGPT

Data from Indagari, which tracks anonymous transactions for 28 million US consumers, shows Claude's paying user base and revenue have grown by approximately 75% since January 2026. This growth persisted after the March surge, which followed Anthropic's refusal to provide models to the Trump administration for mass surveillance and autonomous weapons.

On the education platform DataCamp, which serves 20 million users, Claude is now the most searched term, surpassing AI. Demand for Claude-specific courses among private users is three times higher than for ChatGPT and has increased 18-fold over the last 30 days.

ChatGPT remains the leader in total paying users. Sensor Tower data indicates that while Claude is growing across all platforms, it still trails significantly. Anthropic declined to comment.
