Anthropic becomes world's most valuable AI startup
The company raised $65 billion in funding, boosting its valuation to $965 billion. This surpasses OpenAI's $852 billion.
Alongside the funding, Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.8. The model improves on coding and logical tasks. A new feature called effort control lets users choose how much compute to allocate to a response. The fast mode in Opus 4.8 is three times cheaper than previous versions.
The company hasn't released the Mythos model yet. Mythos reportedly excels at finding vulnerabilities, but Anthropic is still refining safety mechanisms. Opus 4.8 is considered weaker than Mythos and can mistakenly claim to be human 3% of the time.
