Elvis Presley rights holders sue Anthropic over 274 songs

Billboard reported that a unit of Authentic Brands Group sued Anthropic on Friday (Oct. 23), claiming Claude was trained on 274 of Elvis Presley’s copyrighted songs without permission. Other Elvis rights owners co-filed the case, and the songs named include “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and “Don’t Be Cruel.”
Per Rolling Stone, the suit seeks $150,000 per infringed song. It also claims Claude still recreated songs “for a modern audience” after Anthropic added guardrails. The case follows a Round Hill suit in August and earlier ones from publishers including Universal Music Publishing, Concord and BMG.
Anthropic did not immediately return Billboard’s request for comment.
