Trump administration restricts access to Anthropic models
The US Commerce Department imposed export controls on Mythos 5 and Fable 5. Foreign nationals and companies now need a special license to access these models.
The move came after a reported breach of Mythos' defenses. Authorities deemed the models a national security risk and required usage limits while government agencies review safety.
Anthropic must apply for individually validated licenses for each access grant. Non-compliance risks civil and financial penalties. The administration had previously urged Anthropic to delay the models' release, but the company declined.
