Alberta government scans 466 million lines of code with Claude

Since early 2025, Alberta's Ministry of Technology has used Claude Code with Opus and Sonnet to identify and patch vulnerabilities. The team scanned 466 million lines of code in 20 hours. The ministry estimates a traditional manual audit would have taken 6.5 years.

Approximately 50 agents worked in parallel. Claude Code performed a two-stage check: a rules engine flagged known patterns, then the model identified the exact file and line for each finding. Claude often remediated the vulnerabilities itself by generating patches, writing tests, and running builds.

The ministry manages 27 departments, 1,280 applications, and 3,400 repositories. Each application is processed by Claude Agent SDK-based agents against 95 security controls per pass.
