Claude costs more in India than in the US
Anthropic has been quietly rolling out rupee pricing in India without announcing it, TechCrunch reported on July 13. Claude Pro is listed at 2,000 rupees a month on annual billing (about $21), Claude Max starts at 11,999 rupees (roughly $125), and Team runs from 2,399 rupees per seat. Converted to dollars, all three land above the US prices.
There's no UPI support, India's instant payments system, so users are left with cards or Apple and Google store billing. India is Anthropic's second-largest market for Claude.ai usage after the US.
Rivals have built pricing for the market instead. Cursor announced a Start plan on Tuesday at 649 rupees (about $7) with UPI support, against the standard $20 Pro tier. ChatGPT Go has been available in India since August 2025 at 399 rupees, roughly $4.15.
