Claude plugins get a portal as MCP usage climbs 110x
MCP usage across Claude products is up 110x this year, according to Anthropic's ClaudeDevs account, and Anthropic wants developers to package that work as plugins. A new portal takes your submission, shows where the plugin stands in review and reports usage once it's live.
A plugin bundles MCP and skills into one package, and Anthropic calls plugins the main way third-party developers build extensions for Claude. Testing Catalog found the submission flow on Claude Directory, which accepts MCP Connectors as well, and described plugins as the new "apps". Over the coming weeks, a single discovery experience will roll out across Claude and Claude Code.
The 110x figure has no baseline, so there's no telling how small MCP usage was at the start of the year.
