Claude goes after the financial adviser's desk

A typical advisory practice spends only about a sixth of its time in client meetings, according to Kitces research cited by Anthropic. That figure is the pitch behind Claude for Financial Advisors, the bundle of connectors and skills that went out on September 14 and that Reuters covered the same day as a move on the adviser's desk.
At a glance
- Anthropic bundled advisor skills and connectors into a single plugin that works with nine partners, including BlackRock, Schwab and Orion, and an adviser picks which to connect during guided setup.
- Connectors pull custodial balances, portfolio analytics, CRM records and estate documents into Claude; skills then use that material for meeting prep, rebalance reviews, post-meeting notes and compliance screening.
- Anthropic names no price and no availability terms, and says investment recommendations, client communications and compliance determinations stay subject to human review, with administrative actions staged for the adviser's approval.
If you have not been following: by CIO Dive's account, Anthropic put out agent templates for financial services in early May 2026, aimed at pitchbooks, KYC screening and month-end close, and that release followed earlier pushes into healthcare and legal. The adviser tool has a different addressee from the unreleased "Money" tab TestingCatalog spotted in the Claude mobile app, which asked about your own spending.
Eleven new connectors, from Schwab custodial data to Vanguard model portfolios
Charles Schwab connects Claude to Schwab Advisor Services custodial data: balances, positions, transactions, cost basis, alerts and money-movement status. Addepar brings governed access to portfolio data and analytics across public and private markets. BlackRock routes its model portfolios and institutional analytics in through Advisor Center, and Vanguard brings its own model portfolios and advisor investment solutions.
The rest fill in around the portfolio. Envestnet summarises Tamarac accounts and households with a MoneyGuide plan snapshot. iCapital carries alternative holdings, including NAV, commitments, unfunded capital and recent capital activity. Orion adds portfolio reporting plus Redtail CRM, SS&C Black Diamond adds holdings and rebalancing, Wealthbox client records, Wealth.com trust and will summaries with tax return insights, and Zocks the profiles, goals and life events its meeting assistant captures.
These sit alongside connectors Claude already had, among them Microsoft 365, Salesforce, DocuSign, Box, FactSet, S&P Global and Morningstar. BlackRock is also launching a plugin of its own for Advisor Center, joining existing plugins from S&P Global and LSEG.
Eight skills mapped to specific moments in the adviser's day
Pre-meeting prep pulls holdings, recent account activity and open items from prior meetings into one brief. Post-meeting notes turns a transcript into a client summary, a recap email and CRM tasks in a single pass. Prospect intake organises what a prospect shares into a summary, an analyst handoff and a what-to-expect memo.
Portfolio rebalance review flags drift and concentrated positions against the target allocation and drafts the explanation an adviser would otherwise write from scratch. The estate and tax brief checks a plan against actual account titling and beneficiaries, looks back at the prior year's taxes and can create CRM follow-up tasks. An alternative investments brief assembles iCapital or Addepar holdings into a meeting-ready summary; advisor onboarding connects a firm's tools and runs the first meeting prep automatically.
Firms can take the skills as published from Anthropic's skill repository for financial advisers, or adapt them to their own workflows, service model and house style. The eighth skill, compliance and AI policy, is the one built for the regulator.
Why does an assistant need eleven plumbing connections?
Because the data is scattered. Industry analysis from Milemarker and Backbase puts the average advisory firm on seven to twelve disconnected systems, so a single client review means opening the custodian, the performance reporter and the CRM in turn and copying between them by hand.
Connectors are the standard plumbing for that. Anthropic's own documentation describes the Model Context Protocol as an open standard for hooking an assistant to the systems where data lives, replacing one-off integrations with a single two-way protocol. Think of it as a socket type: once the custodian and the CRM both fit it, Claude reads from both without a bespoke adapter for every pair.
Skills sit on top. Each is a scripted route through those connections for one task, which is why Anthropic describes them as routing to the tools a firm already uses to run its business.
Compliance screening runs against the SEC Marketing Rule
The compliance skill screens client-facing language against the SEC Marketing Rule, flags content that may warrant additional review based on criteria the firm configures, and includes a self-guided workflow for documenting a firm's use of AI under SEC rules. Claude stages administrative actions, CRM updates or draft client emails for the adviser to approve.
Ritholtz managing partner Michael Batnick framed the gain in hours rather than staff:
The math on this business is hours, not headcount: an advisor has a finite number of them, and most were going to prep and paperwork instead of the people who actually pay us.
Josh Brown, quoted in the announcement as chief executive, said Claude for Financial Advisors is the first thing he has seen that sits on top of the whole stack and does that work across it, with the compliance controls his firm needs built in.
The announcement carries no price, no plan requirement and no availability window, which matters for a product sold to regulated firms with procurement cycles. The compliance wording is careful too: the skill assists, supports and helps document, and in our view those verbs, sitting next to a claim of screening against the SEC Marketing Rule, mark exactly where Anthropic stops and the adviser's judgment starts.
What Anthropic has not priced
No pricing, packaging or rollout date appears in the announcement, so the first thing to watch is what a firm actually has to buy to get the plugin. The second is the skill repository: Anthropic says firms can adapt the published skills, and how much rewriting a compliance team demands before the first live client email will tell you more than the partner list does. BlackRock's Advisor Center plugin is still described as launching.
