Claude's unreleased Money tab wants your bank accounts

Claude News

TestingCatalog spotted an unreleased tab labelled Money in the Claude mobile app's navigation, with an onboarding screen that reads “Understand your money with Claude” and an offer to link your bank accounts. No equivalent tab has surfaced on the web.

At a glance

  • The feature is unannounced and unreleased; what exists publicly is a navigation entry and an onboarding screen inside the iOS app, reported by TestingCatalog.
  • The tab appears designed to give Claude standing access to your financial context, which would remove the manual upload of statements and exports before any question about spending or balances.
  • Account types, the data provider and the supported actions are undisclosed, as is the launch date; the nearest shipping comparison, ChatGPT Finances, is limited to eligible US Plus and Pro users.

If you have not been following the finance thread: Claude could already reach personal financial data through third-party connectors such as Era Context and PocketSmith, and Anthropic has been building finance-specific agents and products for professional users. On the other side of the market, TechCrunch reports that OpenAI bought the team behind the personal finance startup Hiro in April, then launched finance tools in preview for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the US in May.

“Understand your money with Claude” is the entire pitch so far

The Money entry sits in the Claude mobile app's navigation as its own tab. The onboarding copy is short: link your bank accounts, then ask Claude about spending, plans and other financial questions. TestingCatalog reported it in the iOS app, and nothing similar has turned up in the web interface.

As described, the tab would hand Claude persistent access to your financial context instead of the current routine, where every question starts with uploading a statement or a transaction export. That could cover analysing spending, spotting recurring payments, summarising balances, charting trends and answering budgeting questions, with help on financial decisions later.

Ten finance-agent templates already ship for professional work

The professional version of this exists today. Anthropic announced ten ready-to-run finance-agent templates, and according to Anthropic's own write-up they cover work such as building pitchbooks, screening KYC files and closing the books at month-end, shipped as plugins in Claude Cowork and Claude Code and as cookbooks for Claude Managed Agents.

Anthropic pairs that set with Claude Opus 4.7, which it says leads Vals AI's Finance Agent benchmark at 64.37%. For individuals, the route so far has run through third-party connectors: Era Context and PocketSmith both feed personal finance data into Claude.

What does linking a bank account actually involve?

Nothing in the unreleased screens says which provider would sit behind the words “link your bank accounts”, and that piece decides most of what the tab can do. A bank connection normally runs through an aggregator: you authorise it once at your bank, the aggregator holds the token and passes cleaned transactions to the app, so the app never sees your banking password.

The connector route Claude already supports shows what varies. PocketSmith's own documentation describes its MCP server as authorised over OAuth 2.0 and offering two access modes for AI assistants: full access with all 66 tools, including create, update and delete, or read-only with 40 tools that view and analyse without changing anything. That is a key to the house against a key that only opens the mailbox.

ChatGPT Finances is the product this would land next to

It is open to eligible US Plus and Pro users on web, iOS and Android, connects accounts through Plaid, and answers questions about spending, balances, subscriptions, net worth, investments and planning. More than 200 million people ask ChatGPT personal finance questions every month.

TechCrunch reports that the Plaid link reaches over 12,000 financial institutions, among them Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, Robinhood, American Express and Capital One, and that synced data is removed from ChatGPT 30 days after you disconnect a service. Plaid says its transaction foundation model, trained on de-identified data across the Plaid network, classifies income 48% more accurately. OpenAI says Intuit support is coming and that GPT-5.5 is stronger at reasoning with context, which it calls crucial for finance answers.

What the material does not settle is most of what would make Money usable: which accounts qualify, who supplies the data, and whether Claude only reads or also acts. In our view the missing web tab is the more telling gap, because a feature far enough along to carry its own navigation entry and an onboarding screen on iOS is still nowhere on the desktop side.

When the Money tab could appear

No launch date has been given. It could be weeks away, or the interface may simply reflect broader internal testing that never ships in this form. A first release limited to the US would be the plausible shape, since banking providers, regulatory requirements and compliance work are country-specific, and an EU version would need more infrastructure and approvals. Worth watching the web app too: a Money tab there would say this has moved past testing.
