EU Commission assesses impact of Anthropic model shutdown
The European Commission is analyzing the situation after Anthropic restricted access to models Fable 5 and Mythos 5. Commission spokesperson Thomas Reniez said the body is examining the impact on EU users.
The limits were introduced in response to a US Commerce Department directive that banned access to these models for foreign nationals due to security concerns. The order was broad enough that Anthropic had to disable access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 worldwide.
Anthropic disputes the directive, calling it a result of misunderstanding over vulnerability disclosures. For now, the EU Commission has not announced specific countermeasures, confining itself to a statement on the need to strengthen Europe's technology sovereignty.
