Every Claude Code system prompt is now public, tracked across 238 versions
The Piebald team has published a repo containing all of Claude Code's system prompts and their token counts as of v2.1.212, dated July 16, 2026. It ships with a CHANGELOG.md that tracks prompt changes across 238 versions going back to v2.0.14. The authors say the repo updates within minutes of every Claude Code release.
A script pulls the prompts from the compiled npm build, so they match what Claude Code actually runs. And there isn't one system prompt but over 500 entries: descriptions of built-in tools, separate prompts for the Explore and Plan agents, and utility functions. On June 12, 2026, the list jumped from 350 to 515 prompts, a gain of 165 entries.
