A $65,000 job listing at Anthropic sparks a pay fight

Per Mission Local, Anthropic, valued at roughly $965 billion, posted a role with a base salary of $65,000 to $85,000. The low end is under 60% of San Francisco's median income. The listing asks for hands-on experience in molecular biology or biochemistry, plus sterile technique.

Genomic engineer Jacob Boysen called the range for master's-level specialists shameful for a company worth a trillion dollars. Anthropic declined to comment, and the job is still open.

Zillow put the average San Francisco studio rent at $2,595 as of July 8. Supervisors Matt Dorsey and Myrna Melgar are preparing measures against rising rents ahead of the coming Anthropic and OpenAI IPOs. The Board of Supervisors will take up both after its summer recess.
