OpenAI delays IPO to 2027

Claude News

OpenAI has pushed its public offering to 2027, potentially trailing its competitor Anthropic. According to Bloomberg, OpenAI leadership expects Anthropic to go public first, though both companies have submitted confidential filings to the SEC.

OpenAI originally targeted an autumn debut. Anthropic is considering an IPO as early as October. Market volatility influenced the timeline: the news triggered a decline in the NASDAQ, with shares of Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, the lead underwriters for OpenAI, falling 4.9% and 4.2% respectively. SoftBank and Oracle shares also dropped.

Earlier this year, OpenAI raised 122 billion dollars at a valuation of 852 billion. Anthropic submitted its confidential filing shortly before OpenAI, with a valuation of 965 billion dollars.
