Anthropic and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation launch a $200 million partnership

Anthropic is teaming up with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to develop AI applications in healthcare, education, and economics. The four-year program includes grants, Claude credits, and technical support.

The primary focus is on low- and middle-income countries. Anthropic will help accelerate vaccine development for polio and HPV, and improve the forecasting of malaria and tuberculosis outbreaks. Researchers will gain access to data analysis tools and specialized medical model development.

In education, the company will work on creating AI-powered tutors for the US, India, and Africa. The project also aims to develop agrotechnologies to support small farmers. This initiative is led by the Beneficial Deployments team, which focuses on deploying AI in socially significant areas where market mechanisms are insufficient.
