OpenAI tests Codex on locked Macs

A new Locked use option has been spotted in the Codex desktop app settings. This feature allows the agent to keep working even after the computer screen is locked. The feature is currently in internal testing and is not documented in the official documentation.

Currently, Computer Use requires an active user session and access to the graphical interface. The new capability will enable the agent to perform long-running tasks, automations, or background processes without needing to keep the laptop open. This is a significant step towards AI autonomy on personal devices.

It is unclear how OpenAI will address security and interaction with macOS system locks. Previously, we reported on Codex's appearance in the mobile ChatGPT app, which, together with this feature, turns the agent into a full-fledged tool for remote management of the work environment.
