S&P 500 denies accelerated inclusion for Anthropic and SpaceX

Claude News

S&P Dow Jones Indices stated they won't change the selection criteria, which includes financial sustainability requirements. This decision blocks accelerated entry for Anthropic, OpenAI, and SpaceX.

Bloomberg Intelligence estimates that S&P 500 inclusion could have brought Anthropic around $4.6 billion in passive investments. The index is tracked by funds with $7.5 trillion in assets, which buy company shares proportional to their weight.

Other providers have made concessions. Nasdaq reduced the waiting period for SpaceX to 15 trading days, and FTSE Russell allows entry into the index five days post-IPO. Anthropic is reportedly preparing for a funding round at a $900 billion valuation, but the lack of stable profitability remains an obstacle to joining major stock market indices.
